The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has appealed to the Federal Government to pay the withheld salaries of its members and those of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) who embarked on strike last year.

CONUA National President, Niyi Sunmonu made this known when he addressed journalists shortly after the maiden National Executive Council meeting of the union in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The NEC meeting drew participants from 15 federal and state universities while 11 universities were absent due to logistics.

After about eight hours of deliberations, the Sunmonu read the communique and urged the government to pay the eight-month salaries of university lecturers in 2022.

The union had dissociated itself from the eight months industrial action of ASUU last year.
