Six persons have died and others injured following a rainstorm in the Oko Community of Delta State.
The incident was said to have happened on Wednesday night in the community located in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the oil-rich state.
It also uprooted a tree said to be about three hundred years. The sad incident was due to a windy rain that forced residents of the community to run for safety.
It happened when the tree crashed into two homes, resulting in the deaths that left members of the community in mourning.
In the wake of the incident, the Delta State Government expressed sadness over the development and a similar one around the Okotomi area of Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Information Commissioner Charles Aniagwu who conveyed the government’s condolences to the victims and their families said the injured are being treated at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
He assured that the state government will continue to clear debris as well as cut down trees that may pose a serious threat to lives and properties.
