The Special Adviser to Kano Governor on Digital Economy, Yusuf Sharada, has explained why members of the Kwankwasiyya movement are planning to defect to the All Progressives Party (APC), attributing it to the need to get some benefits.
Sharada said this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, stating that certain rights are being withheld from them because they don’t belong to the controlling party.
“There are so many issues that led us to conclude that maybe all these are happening because we do not belong to the party (APC) that is controlling the centre, and there are so many projects that somehow are beyond the state apparatus.
“There are some states that are within the party controlling the centre and are enjoying all these projects, and we are not enjoying them.”

Sharada said that while Kano gets its allocation, it is not enough, and they want to bring more development to the North-West state.
He also expressed fears about legal battles in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), especially as the 2027 elections draw close.
“We have seen what has transpired in Zamfara, and we don’t want it to repeat itself in Kano state. That’s why we want to have a safer platform that will allow all our elective office holders to contest yet another election, and if given a mandate by the people to continue administering the state.
The governor’s aide, however, said, “I’m not saying that they completely denied us our rights. But of course, if you find yourself in opposition, you may not likely get what you want”.
Sharada said, “There are things that are your right, and there are things you are privileged because you align with people at the centre”.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, also known as the ‘Red Cap Revolution’, was founded by the former Governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
His comment came amidst reports that the Governor of Kano state, Abba Yusuf, plans to leave the NNPP for the APC.
