Obiano Signs Two Billion Dollars Airport City MoU

The dream of Governor Willie Obiano in making Anambra State a first choice investment destination and a hub for commercial activities seems to be materialising.

The State Government has signed a two billion dollars Memorandum of Understanding with two investment companies, Orient Petroleum Resources and Elite International Investment Limited, for the construction of an international airport city in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Speaking at the signing ceremony which took place in the Government House Awka, the state’s capital, Governor Obiano expressed hope that the project would reduce cost of importation and boost development in the state.

He added that it will also create a boundless business connection between Anambra and China, saying the State Government will ensure that the project is not only a central economic hub for the state, but also for the entire south-east region and Nigeria at large.

Giving details of the investment, the Chairman of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Igwe Cyril Enweze, said the project would promote rapid urbanisation and increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state.

On his part, the Managing Director of Orient Petroleum Resources, Mr Christian Udechukwu, commended the vision of the Obiano led administration.

He assured the State Government that they would deliver quality project, in line with aviation engineering best practices.

The airport city to be named, Anambra Airport Infrastructure Company Limited, has a completion duration of three years and sits on a 1,500 hectares of land at Ivite Umueri.

Gov. Obiano Supports Umunze Federal College Of Education

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has announced several support measures for the development of education in Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze, Orumba South local government area of Anambra state.

During the 23rd Joint Convocation ceremony of the institution where governor Obiano bagged a Fellowship Award, he stated that education was a critical enabler in his administrative blueprint and would also be a tool which youths could compete favorably, globally, and all efforts would be channeled towards improving it.

He announced the immediate commencement of construction of 1.8 kilometer Boulevard leading to the institution, immediate delivery of a 32 seating capacity bus and in addition to contracting the refuse disposal of the institution to a competent private sector firm and a donation of the institution development token of 5Million Naira.

The 23rd Joint Convocation ceremony of the institution was for 2,058 graduating students for the award of the National Certificate of Education (NCE), and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE).

The academic procession was impressive as the governor also joined and added to the spectacle.

At the convocation arena, speeches from the Provost, Professor Jehoshaphat Ogbuagu and the Executive Secretary of National Commission for College of Education, Professor Babb-Aliyu Muhammadu, who represented the Minister of Education, harped on objectives of higher education in producing teachers with occupational knowledge and skills needed for teaching technology relevant to the growth of Nigeria economy.

The Governor advised the graduating students and the need for them to take up the opportunities education had provided them with.

“As you have presented your certificates, you will see where it will say that you must be found worthy in character and learning, very critical key words for your future development and for the advancement of society.”

He also contributed to the growth of the institution, “As the provost mentioned earlier that we have started work on. It is 1.8 kilometers, we will finish it and asphalt it. I have also told the Provost, although I have given you buses a couple of times to enable you to commute within this great institution, I will be giving you another 32 sitting capacity bus”.

However, the governor was then decorated with Fellowship Award of the institution which is the highest award from the College reserved exclusively for selected persons who have proved their mettle in their areas of professionalism.

The award was in recognition of his giant strides in the development of Anambra state within a short period of time.

Agric Minister Recommends Arrest Of Herdsmen Carrying Arms

herdsmen, Audu OgbehThe Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, has asked security agencies to arrest herdsmen who move about with guns while grazing their cattle.

The Minister says the arrest of such individuals who violate the nation’s law regarding possession of arms and ammunition will be a short term solution to the recent killings by suspected herdsmen.

Mr Audu Ogbe was speaking at a prayer session at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, organized by Idoma indigents from Benue State.

Natives of Agatu in Benue State, where a recent massacre occurred, had gathered to pray for their departed relatives.

From the north to the south, recent killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen continue to generate debates by various groups, asking the government to act.

An estimated 800 persons were reported killed by the attacks in Agatu in Benue State and Nimbo community in Enugu State in the two recent attacks by suspected herdsmen.

Aside from the prayer session, the group also asked government to identify those responsible for the killings and also rebuild the affected communities.

At a separate briefing, a group from the eastern part of Nigeria also asked the federal government to stop further killings by herdsmen in the region.

Obiano Moves To Forestall Fulani Herdsmen, Host Communities Clashes

May DayThe Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has convened a joint meeting with representatives of the Hausa/Fulani community, traditional rulers of communities where major grazing activities take place and members of the Fulani/farmers Cattle Menace Committee.

This is to draw a road-map towards preventing violent clashes erupting in the state and to ensure the enforcement of the resolutions reached earlier between the Fulani/Farmers Cattle Menace Committee, which he set up in 2015.

Addressing the meeting at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Governor Obiano said that the meeting was in response to the increasing clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities in several other states.

The Governor reminded everybody of the resolutions reached earlier with the Fulani/Farmers Cattle Menace Committee which included payment of full compensation by the Fulani community to communities for any crops or property destroyed by their cattle while the communities also would pay full compensation to the Fulani community if they attack and kill any cattle.

In a situation where lives were lost, full compensation for burial and other activities would apply while perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.

He emphasized to the Hausa/Fulani community that on no account should herdsmen carry guns and sophisticated weapons, assuring them of their safety and protection at all times.

For clarity purposes, the Governor directed the Special Assistant to the Governor on Islamic/Hausa Fulani Affairs, Garuba Haruna, to interpret to the Fulani delegates in their known language.

The Chairman of Anambra State Vigilante Services, Mr. Ikechukwu Afuba also drew attention to the issue of identity cards to be made available to herdsmen.

The leader of the Hausa/Fulani community and the Southeast Chairman of the Fulani Herdsmen Association, Sadiq Gidado, commended the security in Anambra State which had helped them carry on with their businesses successfully.

He appealed to the government to support them in the area of logistics to help monitor activities of their people everywhere towards harmonious and peaceful co-existence.

The meeting also had in attendance the Deputy Governor and some of the state service commanders. The NDLEA Commander also called for peaceful co-existence.

Obiano Rescues Victims From Motorcycle Accident, Cautions Reckless Driving

Anambra-State-Governor-Willie-ObianoThe Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has cautioned cyclists against reckless riding so as to minimize the rate of accidents on the ever busy roads in the state.

Governor Obiano made this known when he rescued two victims from a commercial motorcycle accident along Enugwukwu road on his way to a function.

The crash, according to eye witnesses, was as a result of over-speeding in which the motorcycle rider had a head on collision with a car causing the rider and the passenger to sustain multiple fracture and bruises.

The governor who ordered that the ambulance in his convoy be deployed to the rescue operation warned cyclists against riding without crash helmet as serious sanctions will be meted to those who flout the instruction.

Police Parade Suspected Criminals In Anambra

policeFour suspected criminals have been killed by the Police in Awkuzu, Anambra State.

About 20 others were also paraded for various violent crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, car-snatching and fake currency printing.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hassan Karma, attributes the successes recorded by the command to the support from the State Governor, Willie Obiano.

As the governorship elections draw closer, the Anambra State Police says it is prepared to combat any kind of threat.

 

Governor Obiano Mobilizes Traders Ahead Of Elections

 ObianoAs the 2015 general election campaigns begin to wind up, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has visited various markets in the Onitsha metropolis to mobilize support for APGA Candidates, ahead of March 28 polls.

Obiano visited traders at Ose Okwodu, Main market and Marine market, where over 1 million traders lauded him for his speedy transformation of Anambra State within one year.

Obiano assured the people that his commitment towards raising the status of the state to an enviable height was total, and urged them to vote all candidates of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and be sure of continued and sustainable development.

The Governor, while addressing the traders, said that Anambra state would fare better if they come out massively to support his administration by voting in APGA candidates, as Anambra is an APGA state.

Willie Obiano also reminded them that they would all vote for President Goodluck Jonathan under the umbrella logo.

It was indeed a sight to behold as thousands of APGA traders shouted their support for the party and for the candidates.

The Governor also expressed confidence that victory was sure for APGA, considering his efforts in transforming the state in the areas of Security, Agriculture, Trade, Commerce and Industrialization.

Governor Obiano, in excitement said all APGA candidates can go to sleep as victory is more certain now than ever.

Obiano Reiterates Commitment To Infrastructural Development In Anambra

obianoThe Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development in the state, assuring the resident of Orumba North and South Local Government Areas that his administration will continue with road projects in the area.

During a tour of the communities in the Local Government Area, Governor Obiano said the Anambra State government had spent over 47 billion Naira on road construction in the area within the past eight and half years.

Communities in Orumba North and South Local Government Areas are seen as the food baskets of the state, but the needed good roads to move their produce from their farms to the markets in the cities are lacking. The government is looking to provide good roads in the area to aid transportation of goods.

The Governor made a stop over at Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area to sympathise with a domestic fire accident victim, Mr Friday Alagbo.

He said the state government would offset the hospital bills, but warned citizens to be careful in handling flammable materials, even as the state government had commenced with revamping the state’s fire fighting system.

At Ezira, in Orumba North Local Government Area, the reception was heartwarming, giving way for the people to solicit state government assistance to tackle poor road in their local government.

A Local Government Chairman highlighted some of their achievements in line with the vision of the state government as contained it its economic blueprint.

Governor Obiano, addressing the people, assured them that the construction of the 11.3 kilometer Ezira-Umuonyia-Achina road, which connects Orumba South to Aguata, would soon begin.

Obiano urged the people to continue supporting his political party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), as the 22 billion Naira already spent on road infrastructure in the local government would only be a tip of an iceberg.

The Governor also visited Ajalli, in Orumba South. Addressing a gathering of residents, Governor Obiano said that over 25 billion Naira had been spent on road construction in addition to interventions in schools, hospitals and other key sectors.

He also urged the people to give APGA candidates total support in the forthcoming elections, to maintain the tempo of good governance in the Local Government Areas.

 

Obiano Launches New State Mass Transit Buses

obianoThe Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, had commissioned 40 brand new 59-seater Buses for Anambra State Mass Transit to boost transportation in the state.

Launching the vehicles at the governor’s lodge in Amambra, Mr Obiano said the welfare and well-being of the people of the State was paramount and should not be compromised.

He maintained that the Buses would ply the whole Local Government Areas with the transport fare at half of the current commercial rate.

He also assured the residents of the state that the ‘Operation Fill All Pot Holes’ on Anambra roads would continue for a better living standard for everyone in the State.

Governor Obiano explained that the gesture would complement the services of the 200 city cabs launched in December last year which had impacted on the people’s lives positively.

Governor Obiano assured that the drivers will be well trained to provide efficient services while enhanced technology will follow the next consignment to make sure people are happy in the State.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Chuma Mbonu, while disclosing that the buses will commence operations next week, said that the scheme had given a big boost to the transport sector in the State.
