The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno state has killed a top commander of the Boko Haram sect along with three other Lieutenants with the arrest of three other suspects following a “cordon and search” operation at the Kasuwan Kaji areas of Maiduguri metropolis on Monday.

Apart from the killings and arrests of the suspected Boko Haram armed terrorists, the task force also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, in an operation that lasted for two hours in the area.

Spokesman of JTF in Borno state, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, in a statement yesterday in Maiduguri disclosed that the killed commander of the Islamist group, who allegedly came from Kano, was behind the recent bomb blasts and attacks on JTF patrol vehicles at the Post Office Areas and Gambouru wards of Maiduguri, where several people, soldiers and policemen were either killed or injured.

Musa in the statement also said that the recovered arms and ammunitions include three each of AK 47 rifles and magazines, two Dane guns, 36 rounds of ammunitions, two bows and 18 arrows, including assorted materials for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

The statement also said “the operation was intended to arrest a top Boko Haram terrorist’s commander and his group believed to have come into Maiduguri from Kano to cause havoc. It is confirmed that he and his group are responsible for the recent series of IED/Weapons attacks on JTF patrol vehicles and locations in Maiduguri.

“The commander and his three lieutenants lost their lives during an exchange of fire. Three other terrorists were arrested and are in JTF custody undergoing interrogations. No casualty on JTF troops and no civilian were wounded in the two-hour operation.”
