The Federal Government has once again given full assurance to students that the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would be called off soon.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr Macjohn Nwobiala, who represented the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Nwike at a lecture to mark the golden jubilee of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja, gave the assurance that government is working assiduously to resolve all contending issues.

Former Executive Secretary of the Commission, Muzali Jibril however noted that chronic under-funding is largely responsible for the series of strike actions by members of ASUU.

He called on the government to channel funding of the university through the universities commission to help sort out the challenge of funds, which according to him stands at 34 per cent.
