Capt. Umar stated that the security operatives were putting a lot of efforts but needed to get wiser and smarter. “We go through so much and we put in so much but we see a replay of what we have put behind us”.
He referred to the recent jail break that occurred at the State Security Service office in Abuja, describing the incident as unfortunate and stated that what needed to be done was “damage control”.
Speaking on Wednesday on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Capt. Umar also stressed that various attacks in the country needed “damage control”or “a safety audit.
He explained that there were lessons to be learnt from these attacks which could be escalated and shared with other security agencies in a way of “pulling information”.
On the recommended security audit, he said that such audit on the the SSS headquarters should cover the equipment, nature of the security facilities and the process of detention.
Capt. Umar further added that detainees within the detention centre, were able communicate, citing that as the reason some detainees refused to join in the attempt to escape.
He advised that detainees of such calibres should be separated.
