NasarawaThe Nasarawa State Government has scaled up security surveillance around the resettlement areas in four local governments for internally displaced Tiv farmers.

Governor Tanko Al-makura disclosed this at the flag off of the state resettlement programme, following months of fighting between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen.

The Governor, while assuring the fleeing Tiv farmers of their security at the Abaagu resettlement area in Obi Local Government, appealed to them to return home and commence farming activities.

Having being at the receiving end of murderous attacks by the herdsmen, many Tiv farmers in Keana, Obi, Awe and Doma Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State lost their homes and property.

However, courtesy of the State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, foodstuff, beddings, and other necessary household items were assembled at the local government headquarters in Awe and Doma and were personally handed out by the Governor.

Beyond the distribution of relief materials, the Governor also paid a visit to the people in their homes, and offered assurances of their safety.

From Idaadu resettlement camp in Doma to Abaagu resettlement area in Obi Local Government, Governor Al-Makura gave assurances of adequate protection.

He also gave out N2 million each to the affected four Local Government Areas.

Some of the returnees who spoke on the positive impacts of the peace pact with the herdsmen and the resettlement exercise were grateful to the State Government and expressed optimism that peace would return to their communities.
