channels 2It was indeed a festival of goals at the Lagos preliminaries of the Channels National Kids Cup, 2014.

A total of 92 goals were recorded as Toyibat Nursery & Primary School, Ebute Metta Primary School, Ago-Egba African Church Primary School and Dr. Teslim Elias Primary School qualified to represent Lagos at the national finals.

The first game was between Ebute Metta Primary School taking on Eunifrance Primary School, Ikorodu.

Bidemi Ogunlade scored the first goal for Ebute Metta with a fine finish; it was indeed an intense game that had goalkeeper Yusuf Ajayi almost scoring from a set piece to motivate his teammates, as Ebute Metta went into break with a 1-0 lead.

Eunifrance coach, Glory Egeonu’s half-time talk wasn’t impactful as Ebute Metta went on to score goal number two, three and four. The team from Ikorodu played good football at the preliminaries but had to bow out after losing 4-0.

The match between Toyibat Nursery & Primary School Gbagada and Goodness & Mercy Primary School, Ikorodu was a cracker. The goalkeepers entertained spectators with good saves, the ball struck the goal post severally and just when Toyibat blinked, Ubani Wisdom scored for his school.

It didn’t end there, Toyibat kept on pressing and their efforts paid off when they were awarded a penalty which captain of the side James Dumeyi stepped up to it and scored.

Ikechukwu Okechukwu had a chance to seal from the spot for Goodness and Mercy but failed to take it. Moments later, his team was punished when right full back Chinedu Precious scored the winner for Toyibat.

Game number three was between Pampers Private School, Surulere and Dr. Teslim Elias, Isale Eko. The team with the best supporters club was not pampered; they were beaten 6-0.

Isiaka Adedeji scored a hat trick; Kosoko Dolapo scored a brace with Adeyanju Peter also registering his name on the score sheet.

Pampers promised to return a better team next year.
