The Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima, has directed the Chairman of Damboa Local Government Area of the state to urgently investigate the widely publicised case of abduction in parts of the area and report to him as soon as possible.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the governor on communication, Isa Gusau, said the governor expects that the widely reported case of abduction of 60 persons should be accorded serious investigation in order to obtain relevant and accurate information with a view to taking necessary measures.
The statement urged the chairman of the council to liaise with elders and leaders of the community with a view to authenticating the abduction case.
The Governor according to the statement is worried that leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (a herdsmen association) were reported have refuted media reports that some 30 Fulani women were kidnapped at a community in Chibok Local Government Area of the state by Boko Haram members.
While appreciating the role of the media in accurate and timely dissemination of information, the statement called for accurate information that would truthfully inform and educate the people of happenings.
“Governor Shettima once again expresses profound appreciation to the Nigerian and International media for their very critical support which has no doubt been very helpful in the circumstance. The Governor is hopeful that the schoolgirls abducted in Chibok will by the intervention of God, be rescued and so will those recently affected, if ongoing enquiries confirm reports about the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
The governor assured the citizens of Borno State, other Nigerians and the International community that his administration was working assiduously in collaboration with relevant bodies to find a lasting solution to the crisis that was bedeviling the state and the nation as a whole.
Part of the measures taken, the statement added, are yielding fruitful results aimed at enhancing security of lives and property of the people.
