babangida_suitFormer Military Presidents, General Ibrahim Babangida and General  Abdulsalami Abubakar have  sued for peace across the country in the spirit of the Eid- Fitr celebrations.

The former leaders made this call after the prayers to mark the end of Ramadan fasting in Minna the capital of Niger state.

They appealed to Nigerians to keep faith and be steadfast in the face of the security challenges across the country. They also asked Nigerians to support the Federal Government in the fight against the insurgency  in some parts of the North.

General Babangida, who ruled Nigeria from 1985-1993, said “we will continue to pray for everybody in the country and the country to remain steadfast and to be able to work with government to make sure that everybody plays his part; everybody cooperates to make sure that we succeed in overcoming this problem” .

On his part, General Abdulsalam, who returned Nigeria to civilian rule in 1999, emphasised the “need to keep peace in this country” adding that “if there is no peace, there is no country”.

General Abdulsalam also congratulated Nigerians on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast “regardless of the religion” noting that “they should still keep faith, for there is a verse in a Quran which says, for everything that has a beginning will come to an end” praying that “this insurgency will soon come to pass”.
