NigerThe Niger Republic Chief of Defence Staff, General Seyni Garba, has appealed to Nigeria to facilitate the implementation of security agreements on the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting Boko Haram in the northeast.

The Nigerien Defence Chief was in Abuja to discuss how some of the security agreements between Niger and Nigeria can be implemented.

Niger Republic is one of the Lake Chad Basin countries who have contributed troops to the formation of the multinational force currently battling the insurgents across the borders.

The Republic of Niger contributed over 700 troops to the multinational force.

According to General Garba, who spoke in French, there is need to strengthen the synergy and continue to stamp out terrorism from the region.

In his response, the Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, said that the visit was long overdue and hoped that the decisions reached at the end of the visit would strengthen the relationship.

Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon are among the Lake Chad Basin Commission who are expected to contribute troops to the Multinational Joint Task Force fighting to stamp out Boko Haram from the region.
