Four students, a teacher and a vice principal of the school were kidnapped by suspected militants in the early hours of Thursday.

The men, alleged to be heavily armed, were said to have invaded the college whisking away the victims.

Prompt Rescue

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule on Thursday visited the Igbo Nla Senior and Junior Model College and gave the assurance that government would work assiduously to ensure prompt rescue of the victims.

Adebule, who was accompanied by top government officials and head of security agencies to the school, condemned the act, but pleaded with parents and families of the victims to cooperate with government and security agencies in ensuring prompt rescue of the victims.

In a series of tweets, the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has also pleaded with parents and families of the victims to cooperate with government and security agencies in ensuring prompt rescue of the victims

He added that “all security agencies have been fully mobilized to ensure the prompt rescue of the kidnap victims”.

National Importance

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has also asked security agencies to intensify rescue efforts for the victims.

The resolution by the House followed a motion by a Lagos lawmaker, Honourable Wale Raji, under matters of urgent national importance.

Mr Raji told the House how the incident happened while students were observing early morning prayers.

He said that he heard about the development shortly after the House resumed plenary and he was compelled to bring it to the attention of the House and, by extension, the country.

Incidents of attacks by militants have been on the increase in riverine communities in Lagos state.
