Air Force, Sambisa, Boko Haram,The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has attacked a Boko Haram insurgents’ location on the outskirt of Malkonori in northern Borno State.

A statement by the spokesman for the NAF, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, said the latest attack was a follow-up to the close air support operation that repelled the insurgents who attacked own ground forces at Kangarwa.

“Survivors among the insurgents had fled to Dogochuku where they were also attacked by NAF fighter aircraft and forced to relocate to Malkonori,” the statement read.

Ground forces confirmed a number of the insurgents were killed and their vehicle destroyed from the latest air strike at Malkonori.

The feat is latest breakthrough in counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s northeast to end over six years of insurgency by Boko Haram terrorists.

The terrorists group is pushing for the establishment of an Islamic State and an end to Western education in the region.

They have attacked communities in the area, forcing over two million persons out of their homes.

Their activities have caused severe humanitarian crisis in the region, with a UN agency, UNICEF, calling for humanitarian support for the region.

The UNICEF said 49,000 children, nursing mothers and pregnant women risk death if no help was rendered in form of nutritious food provision.

On Tuesday, an Acting Humanitarian Coordinator of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Peter Lundberg, said about 75,000 children in Nigeria’s northeast may die of malnutrition and starvation over the next few months unless they receive urgent humanitarian aid.
