A group which calls itself concerned APC stakeholders on Monday took over the party’s secretariat in Ado the Ekiti state capital.

A member of the group, Kayode Egunjobi, who claimed to be the new Chairman of the party in the state blamed the Jide Awe-led executive as being responsible for the disruption of Saturday’s primaries.

He said: “The latest misconduct and gangsterism spearheaded by Awe’s men as witnessed in the last Saturday where two excos were directly involved in the shameful and unpatriotic disruption of the primary election has left us with no option than to ask Awe and his EXCO to step aside to enable us address the issues adequately in the interest of our party”.

Awe, however, denied the allegation and insisted that the new group laying claim to the party leadership cannot gain recognition.

“The man who calls himself a caretaker chairman should go home immediately. We voted like every other delegate on Saturday and had no special advantage to influence or disrupt the process. It is important for all aspirants in this race to desist from any act of harassment or illegality,” Awe stated.

The Police have, however, taken over the secretariat to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

The primary elections which held on Saturday ended inconclusively after some thugs invaded the venue of the election breaking the ballot boxes.

The Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, who chaired the committee which organised the primaries, told journalists on Sunday that he decided to cancel the exercise when he observed that the whole process had turned violent.

He also promised to report the outcome to the higher authorities with the hope for a peaceful repeat.

On the other hand, the Ekiti State Governor Mr Ayodele Fayose also expressed his displeasure over the conduct of the election, while stating alleged plans by some hoodlums to disrupt the Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.

He, therefore, challenged security agents to do everything necessary to forestall a recurrence of such at his party’s congress.
