Katsina State Government is seeking partnership with relevant stakeholders, groups, and agencies in an effort to restore peace and tranquility in the state.

Governor Aminu Masari through his Deputy, Mannir Yakubu revealed this when he received the management of a Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development in his office at the Katsina Government House.

He observed that the reconciliation strategy which the Katsina State Government has been operating since 2015 remains on top of the agenda not only in the state but also the country at large, stressing the need to advocate and find ways of mediation and reconciliation.

Yakubu while commending the council for choosing Katsina for its inaugural meeting, expressed hope that this newly inaugurated council will go down to the grassroots of the frontline communities, sit down with the people and see what the authorities can do to implementing the agreement reached with the people.

In his address, the council chairman, Aminu Bashir Wali announced that the inaugural meeting was necessary with regards to the number of security reports coming out daily from different quarters of the country.

He stated that the Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development has come up with a Community Initiative project aimed at promoting peace and mitigate violent conflict in at-risk communities vis-a-vis promoting peaceful coexistence and collaboration across six states in Nigeria’s North West and North Central.

He revealed that in the Northwest, Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina states have been selected for the project while in the North Central, Kogi, Benue and Plateau states have been selected where stakeholders are expected to study and find a lasting solution to some of the security problems that are creating insecurity and breakdown of law and order that the country finds itself.

In an inaugural meeting held in Katsina, the council discussed with stakeholders largely drawn from various Frontline communities to have their input regarding the issue.

One of the participants and Majority Leader of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman Abukur described the program as highly demanding one which has come at the right time.

He noted that the meeting will add more weight to the already existing and ongoing peace process aimed at restoring peace in the state, describing poverty as the root cause of the problem.

The council eventually unveiled the outcome document for the Katsina State with copies circulated among the participants to get feedback from the residents on how best to improve and promote peace and security in the state.
