Proponents Of Forceful Takeover Of Government Are Enemies Of Nigeria – APC

Suspension: APC Warns Members Against Alliance With Other Candidates
APC spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onilu.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Nigerians to reject the toxic messages and criminal antics of some individuals and partisans who have embarked on a campaign of calumny against the government and are calling for a forceful takeover of government.

In a statement by its spokesman, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the APC labelled those behind behind campaigns to unseat the government as cowards and enemies of Nigeria.

In reference to the ‘Revolution Now’ protest, the APC said, the recent arrest of Mr. Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS) must be seen for what it is — “a legal and timely action by our security services to protect our democracy and protect the country and its citizens against any action that threatens our collective peace and safety”.

The party’s statement further reads that “Predictably, some desperate individuals, sore losers, and their sympathisers are acting in vain trying to pull wool over the eyes of Nigerians. Ofcourse, the disgruntled presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alh. Atiku Abubakar is expectedly the patron and cheerleader of the unpatriotic elements who would rather bring our country down for being rejected at the polls.

“The desperate attempt to politicise a legitimate action by the security agencies and futile effort to spread falsehood to create chaos in the country are clearly irresponsible actions. We call on Nigerians to look at the issue of Sowore’s arrest dispassionately devoid of the skewed narratives and sentiments being propagated by these individuals.

“Sowore arrived the country recently and openly threatened a revolution against a constitutionally recognised and legitimate government. Should the DSS and other security services have dismissed the declaration and the underlying implications as a non- issue? No intelligence/security agency worth its calling takes issues like this with levity.

“From elections to governance and general conduct, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has demonstrated its adherence and defence of the rule of law over politics and sundry interests.

“Again, on the safety of Nigerians, the current government has been decisive in addressing any action that threatens the country’s unity, peace and our democracy. Sowore’s arrest is another testament to our unshaken resolve in this regard.

“The right to a civil protest is a given, however it should not be construed to mean the same thing as a revolution to forcibly take over government. This makes it necessary to put the act of a revolution in context, at least by the proclamation made by Sowore and his co-travelers. Revolution means to forcibly overthrow a government through rebellion, revolt, insurrection, mutiny, uprising, insurgency, coup.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic, we are a country with a democratically-elected government, governed by laws. Our laws are clear on Sowore’s actions. It is treason. No one should be allowed to get away with any attempt to destabilize this country.

“We must remind ourselves that the same Sowore who attempts to lead a revolution had a legal opportunity during the 2019 Presidential election as a candidate to sell his governace ideas, if any, to the electorate. He failed woefully in that attempt, coming a distant sixth with 33,953 votes compared to the winner, President Muhammadu Buhari, who polled over 15 million votes.

“Sowore and some of his co-losers have now resorted to an illegal and misguided plot to destabilise the country. Their plan is dead on arrival.

“We reiterate that our laws are clear on all criminalities and Nigerians expect that the enforcement of relevant laws should apply to every Nigerian, irrespective of class and status. This government would not be found wanting where it is required to take decisive actions,” the APC stated.

The ruling party also stressed that the effects of instability being championed by the cowards and enemies of Nigeria are disastrous.

“The same proponents of a forceful takeover will be the first to flee the country with their loved ones while the ordinary Nigerian suffers the disastrous consequences.

Nigerians beware”.

PDP, APC Trade Blame Over CJN Onnoghen’s Suspension

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have traded blame over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.

While the PDP has faulted the action, the APC sees the development as a right step in the right direction in the war against corruption.

The Special Adviser to Atiku Abubakar on Youth and Strategy, Ahmed Adamu and the South West Coordinator and Youth Directorate of the APC, Wole Badmus, both bared their minds during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

With the presidential election about 20 days away, PDP’s Adamu said the party sees the removal of the CJN as an attack on the rule of law.

“We are very concerned not because we have any personal interest, we don’t have any connection with the removed or suspended CJN. Our concern is the attack on the rule of law, an attack on the judiciary.

“The judiciary is the sacred pillar of our democracy and these are the tools that we hold dearly, we hold close to our heart. And whenever the rule of law or the judiciary is attacked, we have to be very much concerned and involved.

“And that is why we are not relenting to fight against tyranny, to fight against injustice. And the time when we are about to go into the general elections and when we rely so much on the rule of law, what we are seeing today is not something that will guarantee us a free and fair election in the country,” Adamu stated.

But reacting, APC’s Badmus stated that President Buhari should be commended for sparing no sacred cow in the war against corruption.

He, however, faulted CJN Onnoghen for allegedly forgetting to declare his assets which is a major requirement for holders of public offices.

“I think the starting point is to look at the initiator of the whole crisis we are presently facing in the judiciary.

“If you look at it holistically, you will find out that if the CJN had not initiated this whole crisis by trying to use his privileged position, having confessed to having made fundamental errors which border on forgetfulness and non-declaration of assets as required by the constitution for public officers.

“And in the process, trying to run away from his shadow by trying to avoid the duly prescribed means of dealing with such abnormalities which is the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT),” Badmus stated.

The comments made by members of both parties follow the suspension of Justice Onnoghen over an alleged non-declaration of assets by the CCT.

Following the suspension, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed has been appointed as the acting CJN.

According to the President, the development is based on the request of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, pending the completion of Onnoghen’s trial.

Justice Tanko Mohammed who hails from Bauchi State is the most senior justice of the Supreme Court.

National Assembly Shutdown, A National Embarrassment, Says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the shameful development in the National Assembly which has seen parliamentary workers shut down the legislative complex following the commencement of their four-day strike is a sad reminder of what Nigerians witnessed under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

The PDP’s 16-year rule was characterised by such incidences of unpaid salaries, ghost workers and a shocking disdain for workers’  welfare, claims the APC in its statement signed by Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party’s national publicity secretary.

The statement read: “While the minority PDP usurpers who parade themselves as the National Assembly leadership have promptly paid themselves their allowances, National Assembly workers under the umbrella of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) are owed their duly earned 28 percent increase in their salaries since 2010.

“Perhaps, if the National Assembly leaders have focused on their core legislative business and operations rather than resort to subterfuge with the sole intent of undermining the APC government, the welfare of parliamentary workers would not have been taken for granted.

“Nigerians will recall that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in one of its first actions as a government-approved federal government bailout to states to settle salaries owed workers. That is the stuff of people-centered governance which the APC represents. A worker deserves his wages!

“We have now learnt that the parliamentary workers have blocked all entrances into the National Assembly complex and cut off essential services like power and water supply; effectively crippling any form of activity within the premises.

“The APC calls on the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara to do the needful by attending to the demands of the parliamentary workers. The welfare of workers is a cardinal policy of the APC administration. We, therefore, call on the PDP led National Assembly to save the country this national embarrassment”.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the National Assembly has directed the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure adequate security within the vicinity of the National Assembly from tomorrow morning to enable members and staff come in and perform their legitimate duties without any hindrance.

According to a statement signed by Sani Omolori, Clerk of the National Assembly, the directive was passed after a meeting of the joint leadership of the two chambers with the management and representatives of the security agencies.

The meeting was called by the political leadership to listen to the management led by the Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA) on efforts made so far to address the grievances of the striking staff.

“One major aspect of this project is generation of employment.

“At least 250,000 jobs will be created through this project and people will be employed directly for the construction of the railway project.

“The project will advance the transportation system in the country,” he said.

PDP Federal Lawmaker Defects To APC

PDP Insists Actions Of APC Confirms Alliance With PoliceA member of the Federal House of Representatives, Emmanuel Ukoette has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Ukoette, who represents Oruk Anam and Ukanafun Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, won election to the House under the platform of the PDP.

The federal lawmaker announced his defection on Monday, in a letter he wrote to  the Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to the President, Gideon Samani.

In his letter, he cited the current division in the PDP as the reason for his decision to leave the party.

The PDP has been thrown into a protracted leadership crisis after the party lost the 2015 presidential election to the APC.

The party has two separate factions laying claim to the position of its national chairman.

A factional leader of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, last week secured a victory at the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt, which declared him the authentic chairman.

While the Ahmed Makarfi and his faction have rejected the judgment and indicated their intention to head to the Supreme Court.

Mr. Ukoette’s defection is coming 32 days after a PDP Senator, Nelson Effiong, also from the state, defected to the APC on January 19.

Mr. Effiong has hinted that more Senators would be leaving the PDP.

Mr. Ukoette told journalists that besides the “animosity” within the PDP, there was so much uncertainty about the future of the party.

“The sharing formula of the dividends of democracy in the PDP has been faulty, and I have made persistent complaints about this without redress.

“I feel that to key my people into the mainstream of national development, my movement to the APC is inevitable. Ukoette said.

He further lamented, “I am also seeing a situation whereby I will team up with other progressives to salvage Akwa Ibom from the grip of a certain few hawks, who have formed an oligarchy in order to enslave and perpetually keep Akwa Ibom in a state of ruin.”

Alleged Budget Padding: APC Restrains Jibrin From Issuing Public Statements

APC, ImpeachmentThe All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday restrained the Rep. Abdulmumin Jubrin from issuing public statements regarding the budget padding allegation.

“Arising from the series of meetings we held with you over the budget matter, the National Working Committee had decided to request to henceforth avoid issuing any public statement”, a statement by the Deputy National Chairman North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, said on Thursday.

The statement added that “this includes statements through social media or other means of transmitting an opinion on the matter to the public”.

Party Affair

Sen. Shuaibu also maintained that the party and government are not happy over the saga that has trailed the 2016 budget in the House of Representatives.

He however, thanked Rep. Jibrin for “honouring our intervention and readiness to afford the party the chance to handle the budget padding crisis.

“The party is now looking into it towards finding a possible solution”, he said.

Abdulmumin Jubrin Meets With APC Over Budget Padding Scandal

Budget Padding, Abdulmumin JibrinThe ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is finally wading into the budget padding scandal rocking the House of Representatives.

The embattled former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jubrin, has appeared at the APC headquarters in Abuja for a meeting with the party leadership in respect of the crisis in the House.

The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Timi Frank, had asked the Oyegun-led party leadership to resign for failing to intervene in the House budget padding saga.

Honorable Abdulmumin Jubrin is accusing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and the House leadership of padding the 2016 budget.

The APC had stated that it made several attempts to reach Mr Jibrin through calls and text messages, but he maintained that it would have been very difficult for him to attend because of “an attempt by the quartet of Speaker Dogara and others, who were determined to kidnap me until few days when my lawyers requested and got maximum protection for me from the DSS and Police”.

Mr Jubrin, after agreeing to honour the invitation, however, noted that the invitation “did not in anyway indicate it is a disciplinary committee”.

Mr Jubrin said, via his Twitter account, “APC will do the rightful thing by throwing its weight to support our resolve to wipe out corruption in the House and direct Speaker Dogara, Dep Lasun, Whip Alhassan Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor, to reconvene the House immediately and step down and face their imminent prosecution and save the party and our dear country from further embarrassment”.
