In an effort to tighten security in northern Nigeria’s largest city during the Easter weekend, the Joint Task Force on Friday deployed armoured vehicles to patrol the city streets and ward off possible attacks.

Reports said the vehicles were spotted at strategic locations as early as 9 a.m. this morning, along the Sabon Gari area.

The city heightened security checks when intelligence revealed that the Boko Haram sect had planned attacks for the Easter break this weekend.

Soldiers were also drafted to patrol the streets and mount security check points on major streets and highways.

Security officials have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant this weekend as the sect has been known to strike during religious holidays.

Both the United States and the United Kingdom have issued travel advisories, warning their citizens to steer clear of the nothern areas.
