The Technical Committee of the 2014 Channels National Kids Cup has approved 24 teams for the draws of the Lagos preliminaries scheduled for May 13 to 15.
With the approval, the selected schools are invited for the ceremony that will take place at Channels TV corporate headquarters on Wednesday.
The committee first sorted the entries that were eligible for screening before thoroughly examining each form to ensure that schools did not flout the competition’s rules and regulations.
The watchword for this year’s edition of the kids cup is zero-tolerance to age cheats and that the organisers followed through diligently.
The Channels National Kids Cup is a football competition for primary school pupils under the age of 13 and the rule states that a player will be ineligible if he is a day above that age at the start of the tournament.
The application of some teams was rejected for providing incomplete data. Some did not provide passport photographs for the players, others didn’t get parental approval, some completed forms were not duly stamped and so they were disqualified.
The committee also passed a strong warning that “teams that fail to comply with the rules at the start of the competition will also be stopped from taking part in the Lagos preliminaries”.
