Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorist on Goneri community in Yobe State, Northeast Nigeria.
The insurgents reportedly invaded the community in the late hours of Saturday.
However, the spokesman of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Kayode Ogunsoya, confirmed the attack but did not give any details of the casualty figures.
The renewed attack comes three days after the insurgents carried out a coordinated attack on a military outpost in Sasawa town of Damaturu LGA in Yobe State.
Large numbers of displaced residents have been returning to Goneri following the relative peace the agrarian community has enjoyed.
Residents who spoke to Channels Television commended the timely response of security forces to Saturday’s attack.
Meanwhile, there is heavy security presence in Goneri town, with an Army battalion stationed there.

A top military official said the attackers are believed to have stormed the town from the southern part, around the Sambisa, Talala and Alagarno areas that the military said troops had cleared.

The officials, who did not want to be named, said sporadic gunshots were being heard in the community, which is in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
Some residents of the area told Channels Television through the phone that the attack appears to have been repelled as the military are presently chanting victory songs around town.
