Ogun Govt Presents N402bn 2019 Budget Proposal To State Assembly


The Ogun State Government on Wednesday presented the 2019 budget proposal of N402,630,000,000 tagged the Budget of Enduring Legacy.

Presenting the budget proposal to the state House of Assembly, the Governor, Ibikunle Amosun promised to consolidate on his achievements in office in the last seven and half years in 2019 to fully deliver on his mission to rebuild the state.

He said, “The 2019 budget has been appropriately titled, the Budget of Enduring Legacy to reflect our determination to deliver on our electoral promises to the optimal level, even as our tenure wraps up. We therefore propose a budget size of N402,630,000,000, which represents an increase of 17% compared to the 2018 budget.

Senator Amosun also explained that the budget will also cater for the United Nations recommendation as regards allocation for the education sector.

Amosun Insists Relationship With Buhari Remains Strong

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has denied what he referred to as speculations of disaffection between him and President Muhammadu Buhari by political opponents.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor described some allegations against the president, attributed to him, as ‘lies’.

He stressed that their relationship transcends partisan politics, adding that it remains strong despite the efforts of those trying to cause disaffection between them.

Amosun said, “The ultimate aim of the purveyors of these unconscionable falsehoods is to drive a wedge between me and the president and tarnish my hard-earned reputation.”

He further stated that their actual target is the President, in order to achieve their grand plan of dominating the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The target of this grand campaign of calumny is actually our dear President Muhammadu Buhari.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let me state categorically that the people trying to cause disaffection between those of us loyal and committed to Mr President and the success of APC, are plotting to strip Mr President bare, so that their grand design to achieve unfettered domination of the party would be achieved,” the governor said.

The Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has asked residents of the state to remain calm, law-abiding and prayerful in the face of the ongoing impasse trailing the outcome of the governorship primary.

In a statement issued on Friday, governor Amosun expressed his appreciation to party members and supporters for what he described as their show of loyalty.

He said he believes that the state will come out of the impasse stronger, victorious and far more united.

“I am in no doubt that come 29 May 2019, the Almighty God will make Mr. President triumph, and ensure that I hand over the reins of governance of our great state to the popular choice of the majority of our people, Hon. Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade,” he said.

Speaking further, the governor reaffirmed what he described as his unwavering commitment and total support for the mandate freely and expressly given to Akinlade.

Amosun Orders Arrest Of Officers Who Attacked His Security Personnel

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has ordered the arrest of some policemen, who attacked security personnel in his convoy.

The Officers of the Lagos State Police Command were said to have been driving against traffic in about 10 Hilux vans and security buses along the Mowe/Ibafo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when the governor sighted them in his convoy.

Noticing that their action had caused a gridlock, Amosun directed his security men to caution them but in the process, the policemen attacked and injured some of the security men.

Infuriated by the situation, the governor, thereafter, ordered that they should be arrested.

He said officers and men of security agencies are bound to obey laws as their duty is not only to maintain and enforce laws.

The Ogun West Elders Forum have announced Mr Adekunle Akinlade as their governorship candidate on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections.

Mr Mohammed Olagbayi made the announcement on behalf of the forum on Wednesday after a closed-door meeting which lasted for hours at the residence of the late Poju Adeyemi in the state.

Akinlade, popularly known as Triple-A, was picked to succeed Governor Ibikunle Amosun in the presence of party executives, elders, and other aspirants in the zone.

Speaking after the announcement, an aspirant and the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Suraj Adekunmbi, commended the leadership of the senatorial district for doing a good job at reaching a consensus.

He also congratulated Akinlade on his victory and assured him of the support of all, stressing that he can rely on their unflinching backing.

Another party member, Mr Dapo Oke, said he was happy to see Akinlade emerge as the ‘chosen one’ and appreciated other aspirants for being part of the history.

One of the aspirants, Mr Kola Bajomo, explained, “So that we would not be working against ourselves as Ogun West, we the aspirants came together, and we unanimously chose and agreed on the choice of Honourable Akinlade.”

In his response, Akindele thanked the party leaders and other aspirants, saying it was a project and vision for all.

He also assured them and other members of the party of an all-inclusive relationship.

Mr Akinlade is a serving member of the House of Representatives representing Egbado South and Ipokia Federal constituency at the National Assembly in Abuja.

He is a taxation expert and holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the Lagos State University.

The lawmaker hails from Ipokia Local Government Area in Ogun West Senatorial district of the state.

Eid-el-Kabir: Muslims In Ogun Pray For Nigeria

Muslims in Ogun State on Tuesday joined their counterparts across the country to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir.

They also offered prayers for the country asking for peace and tranquility to continue to reign.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun also observed Eid prayers at the Lantoro Eid prayer ground. He gave an admonition after the prayers and urged residents to enjoy the festivity with moderation.

An Ogun State governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Dapo Abiodun, has challenged the desire of the State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, to have his successor come from the west senatorial district of the state through a zoning arrangement.

The decision according to Amosun was based on the fact that the Ogun west senatorial district has not produced a governor for the state since its creation from the old western region, 44 years ago.

While addressing journalists in Iperu on Friday, Abiodun described the arrangement as unconstitutional

He, therefore, appealed to the governor to give all aspiring candidates in the state a level playing ground that would produce candidates with pedigree and a high sense of responsibility.

The Ogun State government has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring late MKO Abiola – the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

The government noted that by conferring the highest posthumous award of the land, Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR), on Abiola, the President has shown that he is a man that believes in Justice.

President Buhari had conferred the honour on the late businessman on Wednesday and also declared June 12 as Nigeria’s new Democracy Day.

Hours later, the government commended the development in a statement by the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa.

The statement read: “We are grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari for this recognition of an illustrious son of Ogun State and an icon of our democratic struggle, Chief M. K. O Abiola.

“President Buhari has shown with this action that he is a man that believes in justice and giving to every person his or her dues. Although this posthumous award may appear to some people to have come late, we thank the President.

“We urge all lovers of democracy and goodwill to continue to support the ideals for which Chief M. K. O Abiola lived and died for. For us in Ogun State, we shall not forget Bashorun M. K. O. Abiola.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the people of Ogun State and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in congratulating Governor Ibikunle Amosun on his 60th birthday.

The President conveyed the goodwill message in a statement issued Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

He described the governor as a visionary political leader, legislator, and administrator, whose foray into public service continues to stimulate and inspire the younger generation on the value of patriotism and the beauty of selflessly living for the good of humanity.

The President believes Amosun’s rich experience in the private sector, broadmindedness, wise counsels and penchant for always treading the path of peace, as well as greater good for majority, contributed to the stability enjoyed in his state, and the attendant developmental strides in education, health and security.

As a second-term governor, President Buhari affirmed that Amosun’s courage and pacesetting strides in pushing for improved life for the underprivileged and unrelenting position on the unity and stability of Nigeria are legacies that posterity would continually remember and celebrate.

The President prayed that the Almighty God will bless the governor and grant him more years of good health, strength, and wisdom to serve his country.

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has asked athletes in the state participating in the National Youth Games to make the state proud by winning laurels.

Amosun gave the charge on Friday at the Ijeja Stadium, Abeokuta, where the athletes were preparing to leave for the University of Ilorin, the venue of the event.

The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Afolabi Afuape, urged them to strive in maintaining the first position that the state was known for, advising them to also be good ambassadors of the state at all times.

“The present administration was fully aware of the challenges faced by the athletes, we are ready to improve the situation more rewards would be accorded athletes when the economy of the state improves.”

“You and I know very well that some states are not in the competition because of the economic situation. I want you to know that as a sport loving Governor, no matter how hard the economy, am assuring you that Ogun State will always be represented and our athletes will be well taken care of,” the governor assured.

The state would be participating in handball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and boxing. Others include judo, scrabble, squash, weight lifting as well as all in-door games excluding cricket and hockey.

The perennial flooding challenge experienced by residents of Yakoyo, Akute, Ajuwon, Sango Axis of Ogun State may soon be over.

This is considering the massive roads and bridges construction the state government is putting in that area as part of its mission to rebuild the state.

The contractors have also been briefed to intensify the road construction in the area to complement the bridge construction.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun paid a visit to those areas to inspect some of the projects and ascertain the progress of work done.

Amosun Warns Manufacturers Against Environmental Degradation

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has warned manufacturers in the state to refrain from activities that are capable of destroying the environment.

The governor also asked them to shun practices that could lead to desertification, environmental pollution, deforestation and other hazards occasioned by poor handling of the environment.

He gave the warning at the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) held in Ota area of the state.

Governor Amosun, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Bimbo Ashiru, however, urged the manufacturers and other stakeholders to support the government in protecting the environment.

“Recent happenings around the world have made it imperative for us all to begin to address the issue of over-exploitation of the environment and the impact on its sustainability.”

The governor stressed that his administration has continued to empower relevant government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to carry out prompt oversight functions in industries and business premises across the state aimed at promoting best practices.

He commended MAN for taking steps to sensitise its members on the best industrial waste disposal system and curbing degradation while sourcing for raw materials.

“Undoubtedly, industrialisation plays a vital role in the socio-economic development of any state, it is a panacea for the eradication of poverty and unemployment; industrialisation process involves tapping natural resources to meet the needs of mankind. It is however important that we strike a balance in the way we explore and exploit these resources without destroying the ecosystem”.

The governor said his administration would continue to leverage on the cordial relationship that exists between it and the association to chart better ways of improving the commercial status of the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of MAN, Ogun State branch, Mr Wale Adegbite, commended Governor Amosun for his commitment to the growth and sustenance of the manufacturing sector.

He noted that the association would continue to work in accordance with government policies to ensure a healthy environment for people of the state.
