Two people in the northeast city of Maiduguri in Nigeria were killed on Monday, officials say, believed to have been gunned down by members of the radical Boko Haram sect.

According to the Associated Press, suspected sect gunmen had carried out the attack in a neighborhood that once held the sect’s main mosque.

Borno state police spokesman Samuel Tizhe said police were investigating the shooting which took place hours after the Sunday night bombing that struck Kano’s largely Christian Sabon Gari neighborhood.

Witnesses say some three people were injured when the low calibre explosive was detonated. A Honda CRV was also reportedly damaged. No one was killed in the attacks.

No arrests were made in Kano, but police officials in the state assured that an anti-bomb squad had been deployed to conduct a thorough sweep of the area.
