oyo stateA combination of special forces and highly trained officers of about 30,000 drawn from the Police, DSS, Civil Defence and other security agencies have been deployed to Oyo State.

The security forces were deployed to the state to ensure a crime free exercise during and after Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina, disclosed this to newsmen after a strategic closed door meeting with security chiefs and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ibadan the state capital.

Mr Katsina explained that the deployment of tactical units have been done to identify flash points and to forestall any breach of peace.

He further reassured the people that it is safe to come out in large numbers and vote.

The Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Rufus Akeju, also disclosed that all sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials have been delivered to his office for Saturday’s election.

The REC further stated that a total of 277 candidates would be contesting for various posts in the state.
