OgunThe Ogun State Government has declared tomorrow (Friday, March 27) as work free.

This is to ensure that all eligible voters in the state collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to enable them exercise their civic responsibility in the forthcoming elections.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, who announced this in a statement, said that the decision followed information that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state had received another batch of PVCs.

“We appeal to all eligible voters in the state to take advantage of the holiday to obtain their PVCs and carry out their civic duty by voting for candidates of their choice.

“Government also enjoins all stake holders to conduct themselves peacefully and eschew all forms of violence and tension during and after the elections.

“We further advise our people to abide by all electoral guidelines and avoid wearing attires and emblems of political parties to the polling stations,” the SSG added.

INEC’s Head Of Operations in Ogun State, Samuel Ogunjemilua, had disclosed that another batch of Permanent Voters Cards has arrived the state for distribution. This is despite the end of the distribution exercise.

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Ogun states, Prof Lai Olurode, had expressed concern over the failure of residents in Ogun State to collect about 589,377 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.

He made the comment during a press briefing held in Abeokuta barely a week before the deadline for the collection of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) across the Nigerian Federation.

Ogun State has had the lowest number of PVC distribution across the country.
